Oh wow, thank you so much!! This comment absolutely made my day. I was seriously grinning from ear to ear when I read it. And I'm so happy that you narrowed in on the "special treatment" aspect--Adora's abuse is so internalized that she can rationalize it all away, but I think of Catra's treatment as the first instance Adora can really see and understand how fucked up the Horde is, because it's happening to someone else. I'm just over here trying to nudge Adora closer and closer to that precipice.

and i think that's the thing for adora, like she can rationalise away everything that is happening to her because it's always happened to her and that's her frame of reference. but then she sees catra and she sees catra as a kid and adora overhears how shadoweaver speaks about her, shadoweaver outright tells adora that catra should sleep on the floor - which (and i'm making an assumption here) no one else in the horde has to do on a regular basis must really stand out for adora as not right. not to mention the fact that opening scene where catra is being bullied, it just adds to adora's perspective that people are being Not Nice to catra in a way that really bothers adora. i love that you're pushing adora in this direction and it's a slow process, one that takes an incredible amount of time to occur because this is essentially reframing adora's whole perspective. basically, i love everything that you're doing.
