            1. I host my images on Pinterest, and that's worked for me since 2020.  Sometimes some other site's URL is allowed, but a lot of them aren't (due to the top level domains, to my understanding).

              1. I also save my images on pinterest, I want to ask you where is the "copy image location"? Or how do you do it? Cz I'm newbie here, thankss

                1. Good afternoon, RegisLeywin, 🙂

If you're on a computer, then you need to right-click the Pinterest image, which will cause a dropdown menu to come from your cursor; select "Copy image address" and your clipboard will now have the address needed.  When you go to your AO3 fic to drop the address in, you'll automatically be in the HTML editing field (if you've intentionally clicked to the RTE, then the exact process will be slightly different).

When you're in the HTML editing field, and at the spot where you want your image to be in your fic, you will then write something like <a href=""></a> and drop your URL in the middle of that as <a href="https://i.pinimg.com/736x/....jpg"></a>, though if you change the 736x to /1200x (or sometimes /originals), the result can be a more-detailed image (not always, it depends).  Beyond that, it's just a question of adjusting the resulting image with stuff like center, or sizing.

If you're in the RTE field on AO3, then there's an image-looking icon that you'd click and drop the URL.

If that's fuzzily worded, or gives you any agita, or you have any other questions, then I'll be happy to clarify it or answer them to the best of my ability!

                    1. Any time, man! ❤️

I have a few tutorials in a series, if you'd like, and there are a lot of others out there for HTML, CSS, etc. (different styles of presentation and wording sometimes work better or worse for a given reader).

        1. I dunno if you're still struggling, but in regular html editing on AO3, you can just use the old img src= code.
I'll do my best to type it out here without it actually doing the html

Start with the paragraph code, which is a < and a p and a >, then do <, then type in img src=, then put a ", and then the url of your image. Then put and end quote ", then /> to show the end of the image (a little different than LJ or DW, i know). Then do a < and a / and a p and a > to end the 'paragraph' where your image is, so you get a space after it. If you want to have the image centered, do a < and the word center, and then >, *before* the paragraph code, and then the same, only /center at the *end* of the paragraph code, so all your text after the image isn't centered.

I hope I explained it clearly enough! Good luck!

Oh, sorry - also, explained here. This is the non-rich-text way to do it - i never use rich text, and do all my coding by hand, so....

            1. Grrr, I'm sorry.
I'd go to AO3 direct, at this point - something up, and they tend to reply to troubleshooting requests, etc., pretty quickly.

              Good luck!

                1. Hi! Idk if you're still struggling but I just had the same problem.
So, my link is from drive right? So that might not be your cause but what I did was instead of using the normal link like "view file" blah blah, I had to find the link to the picture alone, not the file if that makes sense? So I think that the problem is with the link you're using cause that was my case.
Try opening your image in a new window on its own :) or otherwise finding another link to your image. Hope it helps.

            2. Hi! I've had issues uploading directly from my computer. What I suggest is making a throwaway account for an image uploader, I use DeviantArt, and then copying the image address from there. It seems to make it much easier than trying to paste an address from a local file. Let me know if that helps.

        1. I'm having the same problem. I'm trying to upload an image to a chapter and nothing I've tried works. I am using the image address and not just copying it, I am using a Google photo, I am adding .jpg, .png, and .jpeg and the end of the address and nothing is working. All that shows up is a square with the grey and white picture with a mountain thing. How do I solve this? I really need these images for some of my story to make sense.

              1. Hi, can you pls tell me how you did it? Because I tried everything and nothing works :/

                Comment Actions
                1. I use the website imgbb.com to do this. So you download an image to your computer (I've only done this with a computer so I have no idea how this will work with mobile. ) but upload your image to the site, and then copy the image address. Then you put THAT address into the ao3 image thing. It'll automatically fill in the sizing but it'll let you tweak it like a Google doc once it's uploaded. Hope this helps!
