  1. Oh, he was very full of himself and awkward at the same time, yes. He kind of got miffed when I said I was planning on reading his latest on a flight to the UK the following month, as if I'd called it airplane reading when what I meant was that I would be able to go at it all uninterrupted. And, yeah, he was kitted out just like Morpheus in the panels where he presents more or less earth-human, except that Neil is NOT tall and spindly, so I had to turn my head to smile about it. I'd rounded up the manager of the local comics and specialty bookstore and one of his homies who was an aspiring comics artist, and we had a good time and hugged a lot (after he got over the airplane thing). I was glad about that because apparently it was all the organizers could do to wheedle him into showing up to accept the award in person, which was why one of them phoned me up.
