if the author specifically asked for that kind of review, I would probably read the work more closely, and depending on how interesting I actually find it, I'd be more likely to leave a detailed comment.
What concerns me is that, even after asking for it, I still got absolutely zero. That seems odd to me. I find it unlikely that not one of dozens of readers could find something to say.
But why would I do that?
Well, I'd say because your opinion is valid and commenting is a form of self-expression like any other. I would also say that it's a reasonable assumption that someone posting their work in public without any further notes or stipulations is okay with critical comments. That's the default for any open space, and it's on the author to request any changes to that norm, not on readers to assume.
I also think that commenters should use some tact
Can you elaborate? What issues have you seen with tactless commenters? If anything, it would seem that commenters have taken this lesson a little too well, given how little they're saying.
