Sorry to intrude, but... Left handed desks? How? I'm trying so hard to picture how that would even work, and I just can't. Surely a desk is a desk is a desk? How can any desk be for left or right handed people? Like, the only thing I can think of is drawers on the wrong side or something, but that clearly is not what is going on here (writing and in school) so I am flummoxed. Please explain!

I know it’s been years, but maybe I can help! In large lecture halls, the “desks” can be more like small boards attached to one of the arms of the chairs, to allow you to rest your paper. If attached to the right side, as a lefty you have to twist to put your arm across your body and write on your right. I believe this is what they’re talking about!
Aaah, that makes sense! I my uni the tables/trays slid into the back of the chair in front, so they're not on any side, just in the middle, and it didn't occur to me that a hostile design like that existed 😅
