I'm sitting here wondering how I didn't see the title beforehand but it's so beautiful!!!
"She should have known he would have some ambitions about being a field agent, not that she was one to talk." lmao YEAH Melinda, you're really not one talk, LOL.
"Melinda pretended like she didn’t know what they meant and got long lectures on the Potterverse on a regular basis as a result. " fhdjshflsh I love this joke so much, and the idea that FitzSimmons and Daisy regularly attempt to sit Melinda down for lectures on the Potterverse makes me so happy. I can't really explain why, but they really do.
"That was almost better, if she hadn’t heard of him he was unlikely to be of interest to aliens. Always a bonus." Exactly, if he's not interested in aliens or of interest IN aliens, it's a double win-win! Maybe this'll be the one to break the curse...although the kids would say differently, I'm sure. "YoU cAN't brEaK thE cuRSE, MeLindA"
"but May wanted her students to at least be able to read her feedback… some of them needed it." Melinda, scribbling across a paper: "To be frank, I've no idea how you're passing this class."
"readying a neat, company-ready smile on her lips. That was almost becoming too natural now. " NOT MELINDA BECOMING BUREAUCRATIC NOOOOOOOOOO that just makes me sad, honestly. She'd never needed to be someone to do that, and now she has to be??? Big saddo. :(
"he LMD didn’t have Phil’s sweet, awkward mannerisms quite right; it stood too tall. One thing she had always loved about Phil was that no matter what rank he was,he still somewhat acted like the timid, awkward trainee she had once befriended." I love this description of him! I've never seen Melinda try and discern the differences between LMD!Phil ad the actual Phil Coulson -- I mean, I'm sure FitzSimmons would've gotten close, but they don't know Phil like Melinda has, so they could never really get it right.
"A matching gold ring on his finger to the two she wore now, one on her ring finger and one on a chain around her neck. He had taken in air for the last time, so slowly and painfully with his head on her lap. " *cries in their last moments on tahiti*
"‘I grieved him,’ she said quietly, her voice cracking. ‘I know I’m never going to speak to Phil Coulson again. Phil Coulson is dead. He’s gone. We don’t get that happy ever after, life isn’t like that. He was taken from me and I had to be okay with that. It was the hardest thing I have ever done, but damn it, I did it! You can’t be him.’" SHE DID AND WE SAW HER DO IT AND I AM SCREAMING BECAUSE THIS DIALOGUE IS GOLD
"‘They didn’t,’ she said, fire burning icily in her eyes. ‘They didn’t update their software." Nope, but they did update their methodology to time travel! Surprise!
"‘You should relax more. Go on holiday sometime. To Tahiti, maybe,’ he whispered into her ear, joking softly. " Oh my god it's like season one Phil and all of his dad jokes have resurfaced and I'm absolutely here for them!! He's back, Mel!!!
All of this absolutely punched me in the chest, because I knew their reunion was going to be the most painful coupled with the most amount of doubt, and I just -- *wrings hands* I love them and this so much. Thank you for sharing!!
