> where Wilhelm the innkeeper had been kind and grateful and treated poor Cicero as if he was normal, and where pretty, pretty Lynly had laughed and danced with him after he'd told her her lute sounded like bells in his head.
For such a short description, you manage to impart a very vivid image of his visit!
> Just cold comfort and loneliness. Cicero... Cicero has been lonely enough.
I'd be demanding somebody give him hugs at this point if he hadn't already been hugging Delphine. Still, the point stands. Let there be hugs!
> "Cicero can Shout now. But he mostly doesn't. Cicero has manners, Cicero was taught not to raise his voice. Cicero is not a noisy, brutish Nord, no."
I love him. 😂
> But the souls of the dragons he'd killed, somehow they had left a mark, and here that mark was becoming just a bit harder to ignore, as if there was an actual dragon in his head, and it was watching him. Smiling at him. Laughing at him with those big teeth. [...] Fragile, insignificant Cicero had never felt so vulnerable as when he used his Shouts. Vulnerable and powerful at the same time... because when he Shouted, he didn't feel like Cicero any more.
I like how you've made consequences for consuming dragon souls. The dovahkiin has a hard job, rooted in supernatural elements. Only fair there's supernatural consequences, especially in Cicero's case.
> He used it once to get through the gates before they shut... and then again to travel to the other end of the courtyard... and back... and again... and again until Arngeir finally resorted to Unrelenting Force to get him to stand still.
😂 That shouldn't be as adorable as it is, but it's certainly relatable. Cicero caught the zoomies!
On one hand, I know it's just cherry picking from Skyrim's default quest lines. On the other, the way you've written all of the contract dealings out is so viscerally satisfying, speaking as someone who likes epic fantasy. The scope, the stakes! Plus their conversation about how they can do it with the Blades on their side rather than against them is a very nice touch. And three cheers for open conversation - may the dragon hunts and contracts commence! Divided loyalties, who?
