This is wonderful, I love it! The bet bit of their relationship was they loved each other the moment they met, but they didn't fall into bed together for two years. I think it shows they would have been just as close AS friends (like in the comic) and that the understanding and fondness for each other carries over into their romantic-ness. It's just unbearable wonderful. And I really like how the end of the story was centered on the 'moderate liberal' type of racism (to quote MLK) since it can be so damaging and should be confronted, even if it's not the violent racism of hate groups.
thanks so much!! i wanted the story to address racism in some way, but it didn't feel right (nor was it a good idea) to have it be about violent, overt racism, although it's common, and instead have it like—the kind of people who'd never call themselves racist, but would make awful little comments and not even know they're doing it. the moderate liberal type of racism, like you said. i'm glad it came out okay, i didn't want to overdo it, cause fanfiction is not really the arena for that, but. i'm glad it worked out.
