Comment on little things

  1. I actually really like Karen. Growing up, I read the BSLS books before I did the BSC. As a fellow weird girl (ghosts and ESP were all I read about for a while) who wore glasses and dressed up as a witch every Halloween, Karen really spoke to me. Though I'll be honest, I was also a pretty bratty kid myself. Since then, I've more than tried to make up for it to my mom, but the guilt's always gonna be there. That poor woman.

Honestly, rereading through the BSC books, the character I consistently dislike the most is Dawn. She just comes off as insincere and smug. Not that she doesn't have her moments, but I wasn't too sad to see her shipped back to California. But considering they're all eleven and thirteen-year-olds, it doesn't surprise me when the characters act self-righteous and self-centered. Everyone is a jackass at that age. You've just got to hope that the girls outgrew that.

Yeah, Mal was clearly Martin's punching bag. I think she was just added in because a quick replacement was needed for Stacey (and it seemed wrong to only have one eleven-year-old in the club), and then was promptly horrified when she realized that she couldn't just write Mallory out of the series once she no longer seemed to be of use. My only consolation is my headcanon that she grew up, kept her glasses, threw away all her hair dye, got her tubes tied, and made a fortune selling trippy Kindle romances.

And ooh, I'll need to check that out. It's one of the only BSC podcasts that I haven't tried yet.

    1. Ah Dawn, another contender for Karen's of America?

I see Mallory becoming Barb Holland and later Joan Holloway ("A Ms. Stacey McGill is here to see you" "Tell her I'm busy", she not)

Stacey was cool but sometimes came off as a snotty Becky who lorded her beauty, blonde hair, thin body, and fashion over others. I got issues
