Comment on Changing History: Consequences

  1. You described Isengard very well!

The confrontation with Saruman was also very hair-raising and suspenseful. I like that Melody didn't try to seem tough at first, because that'd make her position worse. She tried to hide herself, seem insignificant, and almost succeeded. She really kept her wits about her when confronted with the White Wizard (until Gandalf, that is). I'm proud of you, babe! And then...

"I can send you home, Calenhiril."

Considering her crappy circumstances, I'm glad she took a moment to...not really CONSIDER, but to entertain the idea of home with her family. Normal life. But she came to her senses and that's important (because a world where she doesn't love Boromir is NOT a world I want to read about). And her defensiveness for the trees and her memories of her friends and Boromir and this world she loved before she knew it was real...

"I was dropped here against my will. I didn't ask to be here, it wasn't fair. But I have more tying me here than you could ever hope to have. This is my world, this is my home, and this is my war. I'm not going anywhere."

FREAKING. BAD-A**. GO MEL!! I mean, sure Saruman went Wizard on her, but still. It's the thought (or bravery) that counts. Those TREES WILL KICK HIS BUTT.

"And she wondered briefly if she would live to see her friends again, friends she was willing to die for and they didn't even know it."

...I...I just want to give Mel a hug. A gentle one, since she still has a cracked/broken rib.

    BUT NOW FOR BOROMIR!

    "A life for a life…"

Forgot to mention this last chapter. No. Just no. No dying. Can't everyone live? (rhetorical question). We saved Boromir, why does someone else need to die? *sigh* Look, Saruman's gonna kick the bucket soon, can't we just use him?

"Was Melody's life to be sacrificed for his own? But that wasn't possible. He wouldn't allow it."

DARN RIGHT YOU'RE NOT GOING TO ALLOW IT! YOUR SOULMATE IS NOT ALLOWED TO DIE AND NEITHER ARE YOU!

"She had bitten off the words, as if finishing an argument. But he'd gotten the impression that the argument was far from over, simply postponed for more important matters at hand. What those other matters might be he couldn't imagine, but he was glad for the delay."

I don't know why, but I REALLY like this. I like that he noticed that little detail. That Yavanna is looking out for him and Melody. (She totally ships them).

And then he mentions Faramir and my brother!feels just explode with bittersweet happiness!

"His mind knew that Faramir was strong and perfectly capable of handling himself. But his heart still saw his little brother, bookish and shy, in need of protection and love, things that their father had seemed loath to give and that Boromir couldn't give enough."

Ugh, this hit me right where it hurts (freakin Denethor) because my dad played favorites. My sister saw right through his manipulative acts (she'd always been close with Mom) and he treated her worse because of it. So, our personalities are switched, but My brother and I were Boromir and my sister is Faramir. Faramir was just...so brilliant. His character really edged his way into my heart. Him and Eowyn are my canon OTP for LOTR.

"Melody… Melody was family. He shook his head trying to clear his mind. How had this happened? Where had it all come from? It was as if it had sprung out of the ground like a sapling overnight."

Well, she IS your future wife, after all. Faramir will tell you the same thing after knowing her for...maybe fifteen minutes, tops. He's smart like that. I love that Boromir thinks of his little brother as the 'stronger man' for his intellect and how it has saved him from his rash behavior in the past. And that he needs that cleverness to save his true love.

'Boromir sank to his knees on the hillside and felt despair start to seep into him. "Melody…" he whispered.'

As much as I understand and sympathize with your despair...

C'mon, Boromir! This ship needs you! Let's go!
