Aw, that's the best compliment I could've gotten, thank you! I spent about a week on and off doing research but didn't need to do as much as I'd expected. I think it just comes from being immersed in politics every day because even though it's a different country and system, people (and politicians) are fundamentally the same wherever you go.
Dutch politics seems like a bit of a shitshow, especially the cabinet formation, but also a fun shitshow? I find it fascinating that the 'functie elders' scandal was such a big deal over there because our last President did things 100x worse, incited an actual insurrection on our capital, and faced 0 consequences. Our politicians lie all the time and we don't even bat an eye anymore. I love the idea of having so many different parties to choose from but can see the downfalls of it too. We're stuck with just two, one of which is rapidly sliding toward fascism and the other of which is just flopping around doing nothing about it. And it amazes me how much more progressive everything is in the Netherlands. Even your center-right parties are miles ahead of our right-wing Republican party. The fact that there is so much focus on climate change as an issue is also wild. Over here our politicians are just bought by the oil/gas/coal lobbies and do nothing about it as a result.
