Comment on Sansa the Vampire Slayer

  1. omg GOOD QUESTION. first of all it makes me so happy that you're a big enough btvs fan to think of this, and secondly, shit like this keeps me on my toes.

OKAY. So, here's my plan for how this aligns with btvs potential slayer logic.

The events of "Sansa the Vampire Slayer" take place at least eight years after buffy & co leave Sunnydale forever. It has been eight years since every potential became a slayer. Sansa, who is fifteen-turning-sixteen in this fic, would have been WAY too young to have gotten her powers that early. In my mind, there wasn't a finite number of slayers in the world, right? Like, once all the potentials were activated, then that's not the last of the slayers, more will keep being born.

So eight years from sunnydale's collapse, (and ignoring comic canon), the watcher's council has reformed and they race Willow to find and recruit slayers as they are activated. Sansa doesn't know about her powers yet, and although she KNOWS her dad's BFF Robert Baratheon offered him a sweet new position at the prestigious university he's dean of, she thinks it's strange that her whole family just had to up and leave california for CLEVELAND.

Cleveland is a hellmouth. Her watcher is already there, she just doesn't know it yet.

    1. I love your take on all this, especially how much you've thought this out (and don't think I'm a nut for wondering about this.)

As I personally prefer to ignore "Season 8" in canon, I like that you have potentials still being born. And it makes sense that Sansa would get her powers at her current age, as 16 was a common age for a potential to realize their powers (according to the Buffyverse, that is.) In a weird way, I think you could draw parallels to her flowering in GoT. Once she becomes a woman in GoT, her power is how others use her, to manipulate or marry her off to whoever Joff and co. want. Once she's matured here, though, her power is her own and she gets to kick some ass. Which I like.

Now I'm trying to decide who her Watcher is. If it's Sandor, I can't decide if that's sexy or creepy. Personally, I think it would be hilarious if it was Tyrion. Or Bronn. Or both, like a tag team. They would just bicker and get nothing done.

And Cleveland is TOTALLY a hellmouth, even without demons. I always laughed that they located it there, plus Giles called it second-rate. Because come on, it's CLEVELAND.

      1. I won't think you're nuts for thinking about all this if you don't think I'm nuts for WRITING IT. Also, excellent, excellent observation about flowering, womanhood, slayer powers, etc. I hadn't made that parallel yet but it's totally dead-eye.

Aaaand..I have already decided who her watcher is. All I'm gonna say is that in this fic, Tyrion is a philosophy professor at the same university ned teaches law at. And I haven't thought about Bronn yet, but I'm sure he'll fit in somewhere.

Interesting that you note how others tried to use her power in GoT though... :)
