Comment on Of Kings and Bastards

  1. Hmm, that depends on who it's about and what the circumstances are. It wasn't that common with the Targaryens either, but it was more "normal" than with others. And even then, things didn't always go smoothly.

I also always find it a bit difficult (to the point of becoming unbelievable) when a protagonist, no matter if it's a male Stark or Jon Snow or Oberyn Martell or whoever, has two or three girlfriends/lovers/wives at the same time and just because the character is such a great guy, all these women are of course totally fine with that.

So I'm a little torn on that topic. It CAN work of course, but it's a ride on the razor's edge so to speak, as the whole thing can very quickly and easily get quite cheesy and silly.

    1. So you willing to try a polyamorous relationship for Artos Stark? I’m thinking there could be 2, 3 or 4 women max, nothing ridiculously big?

      1. Haha, I think 3 or even 4 women is already quite the number :-D

And as said before, it very much depends on the circumstances and how it is build up. If those 2, 3 or 4 women just go along with him having his own harem just becuase he's such a great guy, then that's too cheap for me.

So there would have to be an explanation why they would go along with it other than just "wow, Artos is the greatest man ever and we're all so happy that he has chosen us of the thousands he could have had".

Could be that he's basically cheating on all those women, so none of the women would know of the others or that they all know it but none is happy with it. I'm totally against all 2, 3, 4 women knowing of the other women and being fine with it just because Artos is "the man". So if you have any idea how to do this, let me know. :-)

        1. I’m thinking that it could be that they get with Artos one at a time if that makes sense, with all of them eventually being with Artos by the end?

          1. Of course they would get with him one at a time, but that doesn't answer the questions whether or not each woman would know about the other women, whether or not they would be okay with it AND (most important of all) if they were okay with it, WHY.

Apart from that, one would also have to decide what status the women would actually have. As far as I know, the religion of the North does not allow for polygamous marriages, so only one could be the wife and the others would just be his mistresses?!

            1. I’m thinking the wives would love Artos and love eachother aswell if that makes sense?

              1. It does make sense, yes, but as I said before: for all the women to be okay with that just because Artos is such a great guy and them all "by accident" to be bisexual at that... that's a bit too cheap and kind of cheesy for me.

(Don't mind me I was just rereading those first few chapters looking for clues, lol)
