    Knowing how the Dursleys love to lie, it's possible that James was sterile and James approved her getting pregnant by another for them which he blood adopted.

    The Peverell comment made me think that the three brothers were Zeus, Hades, and Possideon in disguise or perhaps Hades children. That would explain Harry having the big three's powers of lightning, water, and fire. Especially if Possideon was his father which Zeus messed with while getting Hades from being blood adopted by James who has Peverell blood.
