Comment on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Snake

  1. Thank you for the comment!

Firstly, about the title: the snake referred to is obvious this time – the basilisk. I wonder if, and how, you'll continue the snake-themed titles for the rest of the series.

Yep! The snake being referred to each time will stop being so obvious once we hit the fourth book. (The title I have in mind for the third book is a little bit of a cop-out, but I think it’s funny, so I’ll probably keep it)

Harry never confirmed being the heir of Slytherin, but plenty of Slytherins shouted it after Harry was sorted into Gryffindor.

I’m so glad you remembered that detail- and as for the other predictions, I will abstain from commenting :)

It's also no surprise, though it is sad, that Harry is even more afraid of his magic now that he's killed a man with it. Harry has always been afraid that his fire will spread out of control, so maybe he knows what it is subconsciously, even if he doesn't know to name it Fiendfyre.

I think I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again here- there will be lots of ups and downs with Harry’s relationship with his magic, and unfortunately we’ve hit a bit of a downward spiral.

It will get better again at some point- although I can’t promise there won’t be backsliding.

I bet the woman's voice Harry hears is Lily, who he subconsciously associates with protection, so it makes sense that his mind conjures her up when he's afraid. It also makes sense that Harry hears Merlin and Remus, who he associates with protection now.

    Yep! Got it in one.

It's curious that he hears Neville in that context, especially considering that Harry features in Neville's own nightmares.

So the reason he hears Neville is because Neville was actually there with him in the forest (which is where a lot of the dream is drawing from), telling him to run.

It's very concerning that Harry is so scared he stops breathing in his sleep.

It is very concerning- and will definitely be something Harry is going to have to navigate later on.

I will say, though, that it’s not the fear that has him not breathing.

Merlin is the best sister (I read the interpretation of Merlin as Harry's sister in a comment and fell in love with it).

I KNOW IT’S SUCH A CUTE INTERPRETATION anyways I obviously had a similar reaction to that comment- that’s always sort of how I’ve written Merlin, but for some reason I hadn’t made that logical jump until it was pointed out for me haha

Would Harry agree to go to a psychologist (mind healer)? He could learn other methods to deal with his trauma day to day, in addition to talk therapy, which Remus is already doing a good job at.

So there’s not very good options for that in the wizarding world- they’re pretty progressive in a lot of respects (compared to the non-magical side of things I mean, considering this is the nineties) but mind-healing is one of those things they don’t have a lot of.

Remus reads up on the muggle theories, though, and if Harry expresses interest, Remus would definitely try and figure out a way to work it out- but for now, they’re all just doing the best they can.

I'm so happy that Remus told Merlin that he loves her too.

I am also so happy about that, and so is Harry, and so is Merlin :)

Did Theo even tell Senior about the Fiendfyre incident in the robe shop?

Nope. Theo saw the Fiendfyre happen and saw it immediately for the opportunity it was, despite also being scared. Which is why he didn’t say anything about it to his father- in Theo’s opinion, the less Senior knows, the better.

Also, all of your Theo analysis is gold, as per usual- I’d comment more on it, but Theo’s going to get a lot of development in the next couple books, so I’m holding off.

So, Ron is in the habit of telling his "pet" everything – understandable, but not good.

Really, really not good- Scabbers is definitely not asleep here.

Great to see Percy as an observant and caring brother, instead of a stuck up twat who doesn't care about his family, as he is often portrayed.

He can still come off as a stuck-up twat (especially to the twins) but yes- he is also caring and observant.

I have a big family with lots of younger siblings- I’m very partial to all of the Weasleys. One of my sisters (who puts up with me and my rantings about my plans for this fic) loves Percy especially, so I really wanted to do him justice.

All of this is to say thank you, I’m really glad you like him so far!

I love how Ron thinks of his and Theo's friendship – I wish we could see it in more detail. I really want to see the fun side of Theo.

You’re in luck, there is some of that coming up in the next couple chapters :)

As soon as Remus and the Grangers started talking about how they almost pulled their kids out of Hogwarts, and the Grangers brought up the troll, I was on the edge of my seat to see if Remus would mention the whole Dark Lord thing, assuming the Grangers already knew about it.

Yep, it was lucky for Hermione that he didn’t- he definitely assumed that they knew. Hermione is going to do her best to keep her parents from wizard-y functions, but she couldn’t this time around. It will culminate into a confrontation of sorts eventually

Thank you again for the comment! I hope you enjoy where the story goes :)

    1. Thanks for the reply. Did Harry stop breathing in his sleep because he was subconsciously focusing on pushing his magic down?
