Comment on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Snake

  1. Thank you for the comment!

First off, as to Andromeda's profession in this fic – my guess is that she is a lawyer and will defend Sirius when the time comes.

I will neither confirm nor deny this guess, but it is a good one

As to how Oliver managed to wake the girls – I'm in favor of the second opinion you offered, as I think it's funnier.

I just have this perfect image of him yelling and waving at them frantically while trying not to fall off his broom

I guess there's a hierarchy among the teachers of Hogwarts, and as head of a house, Snape outranks Hooch, who is solely a teacher and referee.

This is technically true- but had Hooch come to Snape and been like, “what the fuck?” Snape would’ve been like “I just wanted Flint to leave me alone, you can tell the team to fuck off if you like- I don’t really care that much” and that would have been the end of it

I guess the Slytherins knew they couldn't keep so many brooms secret for that long, so they opted for psychological warfare instead.

Yep- there’s no rule against scoping out the other teams practices, and the Slytherins can’t just not practice with their new brooms.

The other Slytherins distancing themselves from Draco after he calls Hermione a mudblood is interesting.

So the way I have the Slytherins sort of working in my brain is like this:

They definitely care less about pureblood status than people generally think- I think the blood war threw things off for a couple years, but for the most part the number of muggleborn and halfbloods Slytherin gets is only a little less than the other house averages.

Younger years concern themselves a lot more with hierarchical things, figuring out who has the most power and what not- either family power or literal power (which is why Tom Riddle and Snape managed to get so far, despite not being pure blooded)

Older years tend not to emphasize that so much- at this point (fourth year on usually), they’re mostly preoccupied with school, and the pecking order has already been established. They find the younger years scuffles over power sort of amusing, to be honest.

That said, there are exceptions- and by exceptions, I mean kids that no one will fuck with ever. (I already mentioned Tom and Severus, but Regulus was also one of those kids, and had Sirius been a Slytherin he would have as well, only doubly so.)

Theo is one of these kids. It’s why he’s not worried about things getting back to his father- no one is going to risk earning Theo’s ire, because the potential of that happening far outweighs any benefits that might be gained by telling on Theo. Especially when Theo is friends with Blaise, yet another one of those kids.

What Draco did here was just very obviously (to the Slytherins) declare Theo as an enemy (since Theo has made his stance on pureblood shit clear). The Slytherins did not want to be associated with Draco while he did this, even if some of them might privately respect Draco taking such a hard stance.

All this to say that you were correct when you said it was a combination of your four possibilities.

Indeed, it's stupid of Draco in particular to say such a thing publicly.

Yeah, this wasn’t Draco’s brightest moment- but he’s twelve, and was embarrassed, and resorted to emulating his father (as he is wont to do). Because of the ministry raids, Lucius is leaning hard into pureblood supremacy shit around the manor, so Draco has been doing the same.

Not only that, but Draco is trying to distance himself from Harry and his crew, and this is a very public way to do so. He sort of figured that he’d have to stand against Theo at some point simply because Theo is in Harry’s group, and decided that he might as well do it now

(Which is how he justifies this to himself later- but mostly it’s the twelve-year old embarrassed kid thing)

How come Katie doesn't know what "mudblood" is?

She’s a muggleborn, and even though she does know what it means and how it was used, this is the first time she’s seen someone be called it and the drastic reaction threw her off

If I didn’t answer something, it’s most likely because it comes up later on. Thanks again for the comment!
