    I'm curious about the thought processes behind the decision Diana's parents made (I specify her parents because I'm certain that they are good parents and thus involved Diana in the discussion but I am also certain that none of them would be going through that portal right now if the parents decided their home reality was a better place for the family).

      So, it was a number of things.

      First is that Genosha at this moment is not actually a great place to live.

      Second is that they're entirely dependent on the X-Men for protection, and the X-Men...well, they fail, a lot.

      Third, the most likely path forward for Diana in the future would be joining the X-Men if she can master her abilities...which is a terrible job. The X-Men die. A lot. And are hated by almost everyone. And die. A lot.

      Fourth, there's nothing inherently wrong with being a mutant, but being a mutant who can't control their power has a lot wrong with it. Going somewhere where that doesn't matter and they don't have to watch their daughter torturing herself to try to learn to control her power and failing again and again, is pretty tempting.

      Fifth, compared to the Marvel universe, the Vorkosiverse is INCREDIBLY SAFE. Marvel Earth usually sees multiple planetary scale disasters a year and is constantly in danger of being destroyed.

      Sixth, they're smart enough to look at what the triumvirate wants and go 'there's only really three options here and none of them are great for us.' If Charles wins, there will be resurgent civil war instantly. If Magneto wins, well, they're human, so things won't be great for them. And if Mystique wins...well, no one actually really knows what she wants, besides her long history of support for Magneto...

      It takes a lot to overcome status quo bias, but they've been shuttled around for a long time and their status quo has totally collapsed with the move to Genosha. Barrayar is just a better bet for their daughter and for them (also, they're really tired of being treated as annexes to Diana which need to be taken care of in order to protect her, rather than as her parents).
