Awww, poor Rachel. Liking the little indicators of just how differently she sees the world, and the fact that she's aware of how others treat her as a result. Of course she'd be pissed with people thinking she's an idiot. It isn't her fault she can't read, nobody ever bothered to teach her!
And loveable Wallace, making his Wormfic debut. Full credit, I didn't see how you were going to connect him to America until we got the Colin reveal, so well played there. Looking forward to seeing his cracking inventions, which will totally work as intended without any problems whatsoever. Very unique premise, and it'll interesting to see how you marry up the hurt/comfort of kiddo Rachel trying to find a family that won't treat her like dirt with the usual comedic antics of Wallace and Gromit getting up to whatever terrible scheme Wallace has this week. More I say!
Yeah, when writing this there's going to have to be a delicate balance between Rachel thinking about bad memories or recalling terrible experiences, and having new ones that are confusing because they'd somehow...good? She's been in a pretty rough situation for several years, and has some pretty ingrained expectations and habits that are tough to break. Even in this chapter alone we saw her expecting that saying "please" would fail, and being surprised when it didn't. Furthermore, not even bothering to consider why admitting that nobody had ever given her pain meds or asked something as simple as her favorite flavor would make someone choke up a little.
Still, I think that if anyone can turn expectations on their ear and have fun doing it, it's Wallace and Gromit. I'll do my best to balance the bad with the good, and the sadness with the humor. Thanks so much for reading and commenting!
