    Ooohhhhh!!!! What a fun first meeting! I liked that Lan Zhan had no preconceived conceptions of Wei Ying and so sees a bright and boisterous young man of considerable skills - though somewhat annoying XD

    I liked Xichen's reaction to him and how he's already scheming wangxian plans XD

      I felt it was important that Lan Zhan was still going to experience a non-zero amount of annoyance with this Wei Ying, even if he was slightly more open to him; how else can he confuse his growing feelings for irritation otherwise? 😁

      But also the Wangxian dynamic of 'on first glance these two are perfectly designed to infuriate each other, but in reality they're just perfect for each other' is just too good not to carry over into AUs if possible. Lan Zhan manages to speed-run that whole process and realisation in a bit of a softer setting in this fic but he still had to go through it somehow!

      I imagined Lan Xichen being presented with the idea of another young cultivator that Lan Zhan couldn't justifiably just dismiss in terms of skill level- who's personable and friendly to boot- and absolutely jumping on that possibility . He doesn't have any further plans at that point but he *will* get Wangji to connect with someone roughly his own age or so help him...
