    To answer your question, it's a formatting thing. I try to put the indentations like that because that's what I'm used to seeing in physical books, but I get that in an online format it might look a bit wacky. And I do tend to get lazy with it and/or try to make it look a bit more organized, but forget to check over the whole chapter before posting it.
