This is amazing. I love reading kid!avenger stories. They're just so adorable. Kid!Bucky gives me feels. And scientist wrangler!Darcy is always a good thing to read about.
This story isn't embarrassing so much as kinda scary but a little funny in hindsight. When my mom was pregnant with me and my older sister was 2, the babysitter lost Emily (my sister).
My mom would drop Emily off at the babysitter's and then go to work for a few hours. Well apparently, the babysitter was a neglectful bitch and she would plop Emily down in front of the tv and then go and do her own thing in another room.
One day while my sister was at the babysitter's, Emily saw a stray cat outside. So being the precocious kid that she was, Emily took a broom and used it to push the lever of the screen door to get outside so that she could pet the cat. She followed the cat underneath the babysitter's trailer and they both took a nap under there. When my mom came to pick up Emily, the babysitter had no idea that she was even missing until then. So the cops were called and they had search teams going, and my mom is sitting off to the side, heavily pregnant and crying her eyes out, and Emily crawls out and sees my mom crying and asks her, "Why crying, mama?". My mom quit her job right then and there.
I think because of that my mom was happy that I was the exact opposite of my sister when I was little. She already had one kid that would run off at the sight of something interesting. I, on the other hand, was extremely clingy. I didn't want to go anywhere without my mom. It was so extreme, that my godmother (an obstetrical nurse) used to call me 'placenta'. It was Evelyn (my mom) and her placenta. Even when my mom was in labor with my brother, I cried because I couldn't be with my mom.
I love scientist/avenger wrangler Darcy too. She has a very specific skill set, and watching over those heroes and geniuses and herogeniuses takes a very specific skill set!
Your sister Emily sounds like a badass! Very adventurous!!
And I was clingy with my Dad, but not my mom. Like if my dad wasn't holding me from the ages of 1 day till 7, I was a wreck and a beast to deal with!
Thanks for the crazy interesting story! You know I'll have to have one or more of these little tykes running off on poor Steve or Darcy or a babysitter of some kind.
