    With his knowlage and his power at the ;ow level as it it was the first time he should have enough control to have a normal size Zanpakuto when gaining Rukia's powers if for no other reason to stop anyone from making fun of his lack of control of his power. He will also need to start asking questions to Rukia so if something slips he could just say Rukia told him. Maybe even say a voice in his head and dreams his helping with tips with his fighting ability.

      This is moreso that A. Ichigo seems to prefer larger weapons for lower scale engagements [even his Zangetsu is a large weapon in Hell Arc] and B. I like writing character action scenes when they utilize big swords.

        True but also Ichigo wants to protect his family and friends and while in the Human world a unsealed sword and uncontrolled power draws Hollows to him and it puts his family in danger.
