  1. This is why I enjoy comments so—it's worth nothing that Nathan lies, mostly by hiding things from Patel. So now I get to see how his lies comes across. Like. It's easier to fit Patel in during gym time. He thinks it'll be fun, too, but probably doesn't care about showing off. Terrifying and controlling are his only considerations—hmm. I guess terrifying could be considered showing off (power)?

But yeah, he's 100% fine with treating himself. He also interrogates that reward idea right after thinking it—and dismisses needing to justify it even that much. That's terrifying. It's wholly because of his ego, so it makes perfect sense that you noticed an underlying vanity. And funny enough, I'd say he is fond Patel. Entirely thinks Patel should be running the other direction and judges him for not. But if Patel didn't amuse him so much he'd up the level of (physical) violence until he was happy more generally, because gosh, is Patel frustrating naive in his view. (And tempting. Which is a horrible saving grace for Patel, poor guy.)

And thanks for noticing that I aimed for keeping this non-OTTP; Just because Nathan's sadistically enjoying himself and confident in violence doesn't mean he wants to go mixing the two until they're indistinguishable, and I wondered if that came across given his—what was that word, gleeful—mindset in doing all this. It was kind of hidden in there, but he has his limits—like sparing Perez's life because he was handed a flimsy reason by Patel, and not trying to manipulate Patel with that particular tidbit of information. The mob violence stuff is sincerely a step removed from his sadism.
