This fic is fucking brilliant. What an amazing, non-romanticized study of Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise. Seriously, I can't properly express how much I love this. I mean, nu Star Trek is such a space opera and it's always heroism! sacrifice! bravery in the face of adversity! appropriate violence! But this fic just so wonderfully explores what it takes to be a leader, and the MAJOR disasters that can come from minor fuck-ups, and how personalities and bad luck can come together to screw up almost anything. I love it; I love how emotional the story gets without being overwrought (Kirk and the punching bag! Spock and Chekov! The personnel!), love how realistic and relatable their struggles are, love the way the fic's tone is so light without sacrificing any weight. GAAAAAH fuck this is soooo amazing! Thank you so much for sharing!
