    Honestly I can't see Imperial twins just because I think Anakin will end up accidentally killing pregnant Padme again lol. Just like in canon. Choking your pregnant wife because she disagrees with you is NOT a good look! Now it just depends on who would help her smuggle out the babies. I could see them just dying sadly. :(

      Fair enough! It would depend on how much of an enabler Padmé is or how flexible her morals are in this universe. Also, since Anakin has been steadily walking into the Dark Side instead of a hard fall, like he took in Canon, he might have a bit more practice thinking about what he really wants around the overwhelming rage/power, which might give Padmé a fighting chance against being choked. But yeah, Anakin's choices again matter a lot here!
      Though, I think it wouldn't be a good Star Wars story if Luke and Leia just died.

        Okay so! I have a thought. BAIL. Bail was always willing to do the right thing and help the Jedi IMMEDIATELY in Canon. He took one look at the massacre and fully WENT TO HELP. I can see Bail smuggling the kids out. Perhaps when the Jedi/clones are trying to free chipped clones on Coruscant. I can also see him just being a good influence on the twins as the grow, and recruiting them to the Rebellion. (I just want Leia Organa again lol - it's what she deserved)

          Bail! He is absolutely 100% very down to help, immediately. I think Obi-Wan knew this about him, and didn't involve him in escape plans because everyone knows this about him, including the Sith. He would be a suspect, and if he was just as surprised as everyone else, it would help him deflect suspicion. But once the initial escape/suspicion has passed, Bail is absolutely going to be reaching out, he will expect to hear from Obi-Wan, and he won't accept a worry over his safety as a reasonable excuse to not talk to his friend. And yes, however Padmé's story plays out, if Bail is anywhere near the vicinity of the twins, Leia Organa is definitely going to be making an appearance (even if not in name!)

          Thanks so much for all the great thoughts and ideas in this, and other, comment threads! This one in particular, I think, is where I wondered what Bail's mindset might be in this AU, so you deserve a lot of the credit for the extra chapter that just went up! And for the snippet of Shmi's story that came to me and demanded to be written about an hour ago. I really appreciate that you keep coming back to this story!
