Comment on Languages

  1. Wow, 70!? I can respect wanting to fuck with people lol. Good luck with that. Honestly, two is enough to impress me. I myself am monolingual, unfortunately (although I did learn the Russian alphabet for fun, if that counts for anything lol). I’d kill to be multilingual. Maybe someday.

I figured it was supposed to be that. I know a little basic French and some grammar rules, idk where I got the “de”. I’ll change that now, lol

    1. Thank you :) (Be more impressed: So far I speak fluently English and French, Wixemi is my conlang's name but I can't use it to fuck with people so… putting that aside- meanwhile I'm passive bilingual in Spanish, German, Italian, Neapolitan, Portuguese, Dutch, and other similar languages. Pasive bilingual = "I can understand it but can't speak it". Learning Portuguese (Br.), German, and Slovenian :) )

I hate québec laws so fucking much- i have to take french from starting kindergarten to ending high school, barely got any Italian lessons in elementary so I still can't speak it, and I can only take Spanish the year before I graduate high school because my school fucking sucks. I'M DONE WITH IT-

      1. Damn dude, I am impressed

I get that. Being forced to learn a language makes it horrible (it doesn’t help that I didn’t have a good teacher for two of the four years I took). I’ll be forced to take a foreign language again for the next three years (Spanish) so we’ll see how that goes… Those laws are pretty strange, at least from my outside perspective. (Though from the but I have learned about Canadian and Quebecois politics, I can understand why it’s a thing).

        1. If you live in Québec and you’re not French Canadian or Francophone (meaning French is your first language), your life is gonna be miserable… speaking from experience, as I am neither

Like you can tell I LOVE learning languages, but only learning one for over ten years really sucks. There’s so much potential that’s just MISSED because I have to lean French just to “fit in” with the place I live in

Can we please trade places? I BADLY wanna know Spanish. Being passive bilingual ain’t enough for me

          1. That’s interesting to hear

I’d gladly trade, I’d love to speak another language. Though it might not be great for you because I only took like 2.9 years (because of Covid) and one teacher I had for two years didn’t teach us anything 😅. It’s interesting that there’s no option to take another language at all. I understand French being mandatory, but one would think there would also be optional other languages

            1. It could be because my school sucks, but I get to take Spanish during my last year of high school. But I haven't heard any of my other friends irl at other schools talk about other language classes

              1. Glad you get to do that. What changes senior year that lets you take it? Is that just your school, or is it all around Quebec that they only (mainly) offer French?

                1. All over Québec. Either you go to a purely French school, or you go to an English school, but minimum two days a week, all your courses are in French
