   Yeah, he's jaded enough even at 18 to be mean to an extent! It can't come from nowhere later!

   It's been fun to imagine them meeting young. It's difficult to balance the characterisation we know with what I imagine they'd've been like as teenagers, but this felt right, and I enjoyed it, haha. Especially Stede trying so hard to be crude and not *quite* managing to get it.
