Comment on Fragile Liaisons

  1. I think Lestat in particular needs to write things down to process them; it seems like that was much of the goal of some of the books told from his perspective.

I'm glad you got that it was Rocky Horror right off the bat! XD I would like to think that they maintain contact and talk about other things at later points in the series, although I think the most insightful conversations might be between Louis and other characters like Marius. Lestat doesn't strike me as being big on literary analysis in general unfortunately. That being said, is there any particular artwork/book/etc that you had in mind?

Thank you so much for the review! :)

    1. No, you're right, Lestat isn't very much interested in literature, but I think he'd make an exception for queer literature. Much like Rocky Horror, he'd watch every queer movie, and then he'd go on to seek queer books. I think that's something that would matter to him. He would approach them from a queer perspective, and meanwhile Louis would also watch or read these media, and approach them from a media/literary analysis without really giving much thought to the queer aspect.

I'm not sure how much that would be in character, though!

      1. Well now I have a whole mental image of Louis trying and failing to get Lestat to read more of his "long, boring books" but eventually convincing him to read Maurice by E.M. Forster because, as Lestat would put it, "at least this one is short", then he gets surprisingly into it. Louis keeps seeing him completely engrossed, even making notes in the margins, and thinks he finally got through to Lestat.

Then he gets the book back and while some of the notes are genuinely insightful and surprisingly emotive, a good 50% of them are "this needs more gay sex scenes".
