ted is so correct in that summer ac in america is ~the worst~
i love how you immediately jump right on in with all the stark differences between being back in america vs england. i've definitely pictured that it'll be a tough adjustment for him.
"He’s giving himself the summer, maybe the summer and fall—summer and fall and winter, max, with spring as a plan B" >> relatable king (currently on year...2? 3? of figuring out what i wanna do lol)
SO fascinating that as he's kinda thinking about the areas he is excelling in, he lists their group chat rather than the relationship itself!!
"The lube had come in handy (handy!) eventually." >> lolololol 😂
obsessed and also so sad for ted that he knows that redditors are anticipating this announcement 💀
"They’ve figured out a compromise, the two of them, for how they talk about Rebecca’s first leadership era, the Lasso Et Al era, settling on a place to land that’s somewhere between Ted’s “You are the greatest ever” and Rebecca’s “I could’ve ruined everything and nearly did.” [He still doesn’t think they came quite as close to ruination as Rebecca does; then again, sometimes words mean different things to different people.] Now Rebecca can bear to say without cringing that maybe she did it right by accident. Regardless, today is time for something new.)" >> i love ALL OF THIS so much!!!! the fact that they had to compromise because rebecca still feels so much guilt!! the fact that ted really truly actually forgave her and thinks she's the greatest ever!! the brackets within the parenthesis!!
god i could quote the last quarter of this chapter back to you but i specifically LOVE the way you did this: "and actually, just last night they’d talked about—
Rebecca. It happens fast, the way she takes over the screen like a vision." The stylistic choice works sooo well, i love love love the way that Ted gets distracted right out of his thoughts by her. I love that in his mind -- even while she probably remembers that first presser very differently -- she was protecting him at that first presser.
"(The night Keeley told him what they were working on, they’d stayed on the phone for hours, just the two of them, one of those hopes-and-dreams conversations that condenses entire lifetimes into two soft voices taking turns.)" >>AHGKJDFLD i love this i love this i love this
Thank you so much for this lovely comment, you are simply too good to me! :D
I absolutely loved hearing your response to the meandering thoughts Ted experiences as he waits for the presser. And don’t worry, while he may be aware of the subreddits discussing Roy’s impending leadership, I don’t think he’s gone fully down the online rabbit hole. <3
