I love that so far, you have kept this Margaret and John's story, even though the reason for her to go to John for help is because she feels that she must help Mary. There is something quite delicious about a secret shared between two people, especially since John knows there was never another man for Margaret. She clearly trusts him, and I think it was sweet for him to tell her that he would give her a signal when he learns of anything.
I also loved that John is seeing Margaret for the strong woman she is, and the extraordinary woman she is without the taint of the question of her moral character.
And now.....he will resume his lessons with Richard and see Margaret more often. Looking forward to the next chapter!
I am pleased that you are enjoying this. It is very much a Margaret and John story, from John's POV.
North and South (the novel) is very much about Margaret Hale and John Thornton coming to understand themselves, and seeing one another for what they are, isn't it? Maybe this situation provides a catalyst for some of that.
