I love the tag Hurt/refusing Comfort, I want that to be a new official tag. I know there’s Hurt/No Comfort but that’s not really the same. Hurt/Refusing Comfort is more self destructive. It fits a surprising amount of characters (probably cause I like reading angst) but Starscream more so.
Poor Starscream. In his perspective he lost Skyfire, crashed in a storm, was tied up for no reason and then it just kept getting worse from there. What a terrible way to be introduced to the new era! Really cannot blame Starscream for thinking the autobots are lying to him for nefarious reasons.
Can’t blame the autobots either. Literally every seeker they know is a decepticon so tying him up is just a precaution. They had no idea this seeker missed the entire Cybertronian war.
How could they, though? Since it appears Starscream is a medical miracle. Does this mean Starscream is immortal here? Love how even Starscream himself is baffled, can’t blame him for not trusting the autobots when he is currently being told actual world shattering news.
I'm glad Ratchet was a lot more sympathetic to Starscream than Prowl. Because, wow. Prowl there was literally no reason to rub salt in a wound. Ratchet should have thrown a wrench at him.
Oh man, the entire Prowl segment. Specifically the information he found. The fics that I’ve read on role-reversal-Starscream-fell; Starscream's reputation as a scientist wasn’t ruined and he was still credited because Skyfire was the one who made it safe and, of course, no one suspected Skyfire of murder. In this one having the information be changed is really interesting.
Embarrassing for Starscream but I think it will work in Starscream’s favor that he freaked out when he woke up. It at least proves that Starscream wasn’t lying about Skyfire. His partner was pretty much the first thing he was concerned about. Ratchet believes him and I think everyone who saw him the first time would too. I’m sure the Autobots will look into their own biases in the future with Starscream around. I’m sure they’re also curious about him. After all, why were the first seeker scientist records sealed and why was the information on him changed? Let’s not forget that Starscream survived conditions that’s impossible for cybertronians.
Damn it’s horrible that Starscream’s reputation as a scientist was ruined regardless of who was buried in the snow. With how much Starscream starts fights and the fact that he’s a seeker, it makes sense that someone hated him enough to kick him while he’s down. (In canon where he just lost Skyfire and here where they left him for dead). I can’t believe Skyfire would have let Starscream’s name be debased like that though. I think Skyfire must have been blackmailed because I’m pretty sure he would not have taken credit for Starscream’s work. He couldn’t have, he took punches for Starscream so I genuinely doubt he would have betrayed him.
In canon, Starscream was set up, Skyfire was left for dead on an alien planet and it’s all the institute/senate/autobots fault. His fury set them all ablaze. At least in terms of his partner, he wasn’t guilty for abandoning him. However, Skyfire here, didn’t get arrested or lose his credibility. But if he really was blackmailed into staying silent then the guilt must have been horrible. He probably blamed himself for not doing more.
I’m not sure if Skyfire is actually dead, the information could have been fabricated by someone. Maybe even Skyfire himself after all if he was blackmailed that could have been enough for him to do something. But idk It’s probably wishful thinking to believe Skyfire lived. The cybertronian war was incredibly devastating. In a universe where Starscream fell in the storm I could see Skyfire dying pretty early on.
Regardless, Starscream's grief will be fuel for his revenge. In canon, early war Starscream is competent and terrifying. He plotted his revenge and climbed up to be the second Commander of the decepticons. Here he lost too much too fast. Sure it may have taken ten million stellar cycles but he got all the bad news in one day. I’m sure he’s going to have an explosive breakdown in the near future. Idk how much of a threat he’ll be since everybody else around him will be seasoned warriors but I’m sure he’ll cause chaos.
Especially since soon Starscream is meeting his trine. With how much he didn’t care about leaving Vos, how he knows Skyfire was murdered by the decepticons, how angry he is, and also the one sided slow burn tag…yeah, he’s not gonna like them.
Rip to Thundercracker and Skywarp’s dreams of happily uniting with their trine mate who they have most definitely waited their entire life to meet.
What an insightful comment! I really appreciate how much thought you put into it and your reactions to each piece of the chapter/comparing it to canon.
Oh yeah, I was really surprised when I realized that tag wasn't official. It seems like such a specific thing that fits so many characters. Especially the ones who deny they even need comfort when they so obviously do.
Prowl will redeem himself for his prickish ways, though the how will remain a mystery. Huhu
It's going to take some time for Starscream to become a proper menace, gotta have some build up. But he'll get there. And the road with the trine is going to be VERY bumpy, the slowest of fast burns. They're on sight meanwhile Starscream's like, ew don't touch me with your filthy Decepticon hands. I hope the coming chapters can live up to your hype!
