    I like the push/pull here between Jinshi and Maomao as they're feeling out the shape of their relationship in the wake of Jinshi reclaiming his identity as a prince of the nation. The part where Maomao hands him the balm and tells him that he could use that and just stop coming feels especially in character; on the surface she's pushing him away, but it reads as her testing his desire to actually see her outside of whatever usefulness she believes she has to him.

      I'm glad you enjoyed! This chapter was SO fun to write--things have changed in so many ways, and yet, nothing has changed at all.
