I was reading through the chapters posted thus far with the intent to comment when I was up to date, but as I was internally raving over your impeccable Manfred voice, this paragraph just like, COMPLETELY took my breath away:
They are curious in the way people on the streets sometimes stare at him, but then immediately look away, curious in the way a child will stand on their tip-toes to peek over the edge of their grandmother's coffin, or the way in which someone tastes a dodgy fruit against their better judgement.
It’s just such a succinct yet evocative description of curiosity and what it means to be human, how we’re drawn to things even despite ourselves and, I don’t even know, it just… unlocked something in my brain. So kudos x 100 to Manfred (and by extension you) for making me have a mild (but welcome!) existential crisis on my sofa on a dreary Friday afternoon.
