I suppose one could argue that it’s unrealistic, given the time and place, that everyone close to Will accepts his sexuality so readily; I wouldn’t bet on it being that easy for him in the show if his being gay becomes more important to the plot in ST5. However, Mike is Will’s closest friend and may already have some inkling about his orientation, if not his feelings for Mike in particular. The line during their argument in ST3 about Will not liking girls and Mike’s remorse afterwards, seeming to recognize that he’d crossed a line he shouldn’t have, hint at him being aware of it. He did seem pretty oblivious during their conversation in the van in ST4, but at that point, he was consumed with worry over El, both for the state of their relationship and for her safety. Anyway, this is a fix-fic, where life is supposed to be kinder to the characters than in canon. 😉
