    Something that seems to have passed you by is that starfleet is not a military organisation. That's the whole point of it - it's about research and exploration. This is a good fic, but all of the little mentions of it being the military are just niggling on my nerves to the point where I can't read it

      Uh... sorry to burst your bubble, but it IS a military organization, albeit one with research and exploration goals as well. But by all means, stop reading if my interpretation troubles you.
