Comment on If the Courses Be Departed

  1. It doesn’t wash with Arthur. The first thing out of Arthur’s mouth when Eames walks in is “what the fuck are you doing here.” It’s not even a question, more of a demand, and Eames grins in response.
“I thought you might be missing me,” he says.
“Like a hole in the head,” Arthur replies, then turns to Ariadne. “Is this anything to do with you?”

“What would you like me to cast my expert eye over first?” he asks when he reaches Arthur.
“Presumably you’re here to cast an eye over me,” Arthur says tersely.

I loooooooooooooooove how shrewd Arthur is. nothing and no one can lie to him. not even Eames. he just knows! and I also love how Eames is trying to deny that he has feelings for Athur but still slips up and can't lie perfectly to himself ab0out it. It was really nice reading the juxtaposition of Eames' experience with family Christmas celebrations and his disdain about the season and then ab0out Arthur's love for it and his sentimentality over it. I kept chuckling through out with the quips and the banter and how you included the prompt in Arthur's dream. Laughed out loud at the meeces who haven’t got any cheeses and I ADORED Eames' foray to Arthur's sentimental grieving memories of Mal and Cobb, and his grandfather! I also wish Eames had opened that door and seen for himself what memory of him Arthur held so dear T^T your descriptions, pacing and setting is fantastic! Thank you for this lovely lovely gift!

P.S. I totally screamed "EAMES GET THE BURGUNDY SHIRT PLEASE!" even if it would be a little tight on his shoulders because he'd look stunning in it xD

and sorry for the many edits. i hope this time it'll work

    1. I AM SO LATE REPLYING I'm sorry, thank you SO MUCH for your lovely comment. I was a bit hesitant about posting what I'd written becuase... it wasn't halfway finished, and kind of went a bit further down the path of melencholy that I'd anticipated. I thought there was just going to be muppets and christmas film references, but then the theme of regret kind of became more of a thing than I thought it would. Eames attempting to lie to himself and Arthur seeing through him are kind what it all boils down to, I LOVE that you've specifically mentioned that.

I loved your prompt! I initially had a wildly different idea that was just NOT coming together, I ended up in a research hole, and then I thought to myself 'write something FUN', and the meeces were definitely what started me off. I wasn't quite anticipating the direction the story took, and doing justice to the way it ended up going sort of turned into a bit more than I thought it was going to, so I apologise for the fact that the second part will probably make an appearance in, like, May... it all ran away with me slightly! There was a bit more emotional development to go through than I expected before they could get to the confession, but they do get there.

And yes! Eames TOTALLY should have got that shirt. He might end up popping a seam in the shoulder, but that just gives Arthur another excuse to pull it off him :D

Thank you for your wonderful comment! <3

      1. no worries we all got pretty busy lives! I totally love the melancholic path this story has taken and the theme of regret gives it more of a punch (I'm an angst with a happy ending enthusiast lol) and I also adore how well they seem to know/have studied each other by all the small tidbits of information they've gathered through the years, seeing right through each other and the facades they put up.

I absolutely love love love how you took my prompt and combined it with modern era canon. it was such a happy and fun surprise! I think you've done an incredible job with it and this story is definitely one I'm going to be rereading often 😍 I'm looking forward to reading the rest whenever you are ready to post, even if it takes months! so take your time and don't stress over it too much 🥰❤️❤️❤️
