Hello, Courtney, my dear! Here with a little review for the Grimm Bookshop! :D Am I really that behind on this story? I thought I had already r&r at least 3 or 4 chapters, but apparently not... maybe I'll manage to fix it a bit over the reviewing event, we'll see... This was, as always, a delightful chapter! I really enjoyed meeting Azi's gran, and I really loved your description of the living facility, it was very immersive and gave a wonderful picture of the place and of its feeling. It seems like a pleasant place, as much as these sort of places can be pleasant. And Azi's gran is so sweet and full of vitality, really a lovely woman! You can tell she and Azi share a deep, affectionate bond. <3 Mr Metatron? Well, this is going to be interesting... :P Definitely there is more than friendship there ;) There is something about older people's romances that always makes me happy... maybe it's the idea that it is never too late to fall in love... :D During that time, Aziraphale had been too preoccupied with his books. Too busy trying to beat his Grandad’s best time doing the weekly crossword. Too determined to learn as many languages as possible and pick a respectable career that would continue to earn their approval. Too busy trying to keep busy and achieve great things so that he could ignore the lingering doubts regarding his sexuality and what speaking that truth might actually mean. I loved this passage. It gives such a clear portrayal of young Aziraphale in just a short paragraph, and it's such a poignant reflection on what figuring out one's sexuality can mean. The fear and denial are so real, and it feels like such an Aziraphale move to distract himself by focusing on intellectual activities. It's sad and cute and relatable at the same time. Of course, his grandparents would be understanding, but he couldn't know that, could he? And it sounds like he's the sort of person who overthinks and worries too much, which also makes sense for his character... By the way, I also really loved the concern and support from his gran when he confessed that he'd broken up with Gabriel... it was very sweet! <3 The date with Crowley was an absolute delight to read, too! I love the quiet teasing between them, and Aziraphale's inopportune thoughts were hilarious, and I loved the little hints about Crowley's self-doubt, too. He tries not to show it, but there is so much vulnerability in him as well... they are absolutely lovely together, and I really hope they'll find a way to win their fears and make this not-yet-a-relationship work, because I'm already shipping them so much! He could feel it happening already. The feelings building beneath this current of urgent need. And he really ought to do something to stop said feelings from rising to the surface. Else he'd find himself drowning in another relationship he couldn't sustain. Only this time, he was certain his heart would never survive it. Ouch! This hurt! But yeah, it makes sense that Aziraphale would be scared of lowering his defenses at the moment. The flashback scene was, once again, delightful! Loved the story behind the bartender's nicknames... :P Btw... I caught a few familiar names (from some different fandom) throughout the chapter... maybe they were just coincidences, but I just wanted to mention it... :P And of course, all the heaven and hell references are always so cool to catch :D You weave them into your narrative so cleverly and naturally and they are, once again, delightful! “Going for the holy trinity of citrus fruits, are you?” Lol! :P Btw, I also love all the differences in their tastes, being it food/drink related, or music, or whatever, and how they always fit their personalities so well! The scene in the record shop was super cute, too! I loved Aziraphale trying to find that one record that could be a meeting point between their opposite musical tastes. I wonder if Crowley ended up liking it :P Sorry for the messy review... anyway, this was a really lovely chapter! Thank you for sharing this lovely story with us! Big snowball hug, Chiara
Wow Chiara, this is such a masterpiece of a review! I appreciate you so, so much, my friend! We love a supportive family in this house, so it was my goal to make Gran as likable as possible! And yess...Mr Metatron (or Stan haha)...we shall see what unfolds there ;)
Oh and, as for different names from other fandoms...if I did it, it wasn't intentional haha. My brain was working in overdrive to put all the GO charries into this one that I possibly could hah.
Anyway, thank you so much for your review, it's so incredibly thoughtful! I appreciate your support on this piece!
