Thanks so much! I think I've read another fic that blended backgrounds a bit---it was really important to me to find a way to blend any possible backgrounds into my Shepard's story because, to me, I wanted much of Shepard's past to inform her present to emphasize how she starts the series kind of "stuck" in her past. Dk why, but I just love how some of them fit together. Ex. If Shepard has the Mindoir background, I favor the "ruthless" track, as in my head, her disdain for the batarians would come from the trauma she experienced when they raided Mindoir. And to add to that, the war hero background, IMO can really contribute to the level of ruthlessness Shepard's said to have in the battle of Torfan. Even so, I'm a big "paragade" fan.
I'm also one of those players that gets annoyed with the Akuze "sole survivor" background bc of her relationship w/ Cerberus in ME2. One goal of this fic was to fix that so it would make more sense why everyone is so mad at her for joining up with them. I'm in the process of writing the ME2 novelization now, and it just scratches my brain that this "plot hole" is resolved.
