Oh I totally agree with the Aemond point. Like Viserys seemed so annoyed and put-upon the entire time, which- honestly, kudos to Paddy because he is an increasingly actor holy moly. Viserys’ relationship with Alicent’s kids is so interesting to me. I think it’s pretty obvious he only remarried to have spares, but then like so many Lords has to face these children he didn’t necessarily want to have other than for some catastrophe where him and his heir dies.
Feudalism is so messy and inefficient and awful lol.
I honestly can’t wait to get deeper into how Viserys and even Rhaenyra and Daemon and Rhaenys see Visella. It’s gonna be so fun omg 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yeah—I agree. Viserys married Alicent so he could have a wife (a Queen to help run the court, a beautiful young woman to have the affections of) and so he could have spares. Very needed given he had a single child and the Targaryens were down to Him, Rhaenyra, and Daemon (and Rhaenys) at that point. You need only look at Jaehaerys and Alysanne’s kids to see how Stuff Happens. Viserys seems like a very indifferent neglectful parent that has the occasional spark of interest when it’s ‘fun’ and then lost interest (even with Rhaenyra, Viserys supported her, but he never did anything that would make his own life more difficult. He never formally changed succession to the Eldest, he never made Rhaenyra his hand or permanently got rid of Otto, he refused to properly address the brewing succession conflict, he refused to control the proliferation of dragons at any point in his reign). Baby Aegon seems to have been doted over for a time before Viserys lost interest. Viserys health was on the slow decline and Aegon was just a spare. And after Rhaenyra started having kids, well then the greens kids weren’t even spares.
What makes it worse is that if he needed a Queen he could have married an older woman, say a widow who wouldn't likely have children that would be a threat to Rhaenrya and even if she had children she likely wouldn't come from as powerful a house as the Hightowers.
Thing is, Visery did need kids. There was not guarantee that Rhaenyra wouldn’t drop dead of plague or a riding accident. You need only look at the children of Alysanne and Jaehaerys.
Moreover, lots of woman in the family died in childbirth. Both Rhaenyra’s mother and grandmother did. She may not have surrivived that, and her heir may or may not have lived if she died in the birthing bed.
Viserys line was far from secure and he and Dameon were the only Targaryens left (since Rhaeny’s children took the Velaryon name). He needed more kids for the realms security.
