Today I was re-reading the ginsue smut scene in s/i after I read your comment, and you are 100% right lmao. The tone in that 'first time' scene is really different from this 'first time' scene. I feel like for me, Tsukuyo is extremely sexually repressed because she's been completely desensitized to it, born into an environment where women are literally enslaved and there is no hope. Keeping herself 'pure' is a form of rebellion, and she sticks to that very rigidly. So it's no surprise that when I write her having sex, it's usually got traces of awkwardness, a lack of confidence, and I like to inject a lot of humor too especially when she's doing it with Gintoki - who is really not good at being quiet at most given points of his life. He's somewhat born to ruin the mood - and that's also because he's sabotaging himself in his own way. Since I don't believe in detaching canon personality, even in a sexy environment, GinTsu is vanilla precisely of these elements that are from the canon material.
When I write smut for ZenSachi, I really take into account the fact that Sacchan doesn't inherently have a lot of inhibitions. She's not self-conscious at all when she's in the show canonically wearing bondage gear, or being just flat out masochistic + horny. So because of that, I feel like she's very open and in tune with her body. That's why I mention her already experimenting with sex toys, describing her sexual fantasies, and watching porn videos in this story, because even if she's canonically a virgin, she's still very interested in sex. There's an element of detachment that I tried to put into this scene, because basically they are both going into it understanding they are not in love with each other. That would generally make for terrible sex except for the fact that 1. they have this history of tension that isn't ever resolved and 2. other elements like the aphrosidiac, booze, the contract. But the benefit of them having low expectations is that once they surprise each other, they feel more emboldened to play off against each other, which makes it erotic.
Since the vast majority of people who read my fanfiction are women, I think it's important to involve buildup to sex. Without the buildup I might as well have linked a porn video instead of wasting my time writing a gratuitous scene that's not customized to my pairing of choice. Now of course a lot of authors don't give a shit, but I do, if only for my own self satisfaction.
