Comment on Danny Phantom: A Slight Revision

  1. I know, but if you take into account that blood and plasma has water in it, then maybe ectoplasm also has water in it and so it counts in my book. Also, he wasn't smothered, I made it very clear that the viscous liquid spilled out and engulfed him like rising water. So, I'm using the water connection to lead up to his ice powers later on.

    1. What makes you believe that ectoplasm contains water?

      1. Because ectoplasm is often portrayed as similar to blood, which does have water in it, and it could also be a mutated form of plasma, which also has water in it. We don't actually know what ectoplasm is, so I'm taking the "plasm" part and associating it with plasma.

        1. I'm just not a big fan of the whole ice-powers thing. It's too easy and convenient.

          1. What's so easy about having ice powers? It's only as "easy and convenient" as any other kind of powers.

            1. Okay, I will try to explain why I don't like Danny's ice powers in details.

First of, the idea that his ghost breath was supposed to lead up to his ice powers from the beginning is bullshit. I'm pretty certain no member of the crew thought of ice powers when they came up with his ghost breath.
Your breath turning visible when ghosts and demons are around is a horror cliché. The Amityville Horror, The Sixth Sense, The Exorcist, just to name a few.
If anything it would have made sense if all the ghosts had an aura of cold.
But besides that, it wasn't planned since the beginning. It was a random thing they came up with to make Danny more powerful, that's the whole point of the episode Urban Jungle, nothing else.

And it might have been nice to see him train his new abilities, but then it should have been expanded on that. Not just a training montage with the yetis but something continuous. Some active learning and discovering instead of a one-and-done thing.

But that's still not the actually reason why I dislike it so much. I mean it when I say it became easy. Especially with the show's deterioration in general.
His ice powers just became a general solution in every fight afterwards. There's a problem? Just freeze it.
And it doesn't even drain him.

That's why I think his wailing should have been deeper explored instead of giving him a new power that he can use as much as he wants.
What would have been interesting is if we'd gotten training sequences of Danny experimenting his wail, of him growing into it to the point that he no longer detransformed or concentrating it's strength without causing mass damage. But no. Vlad's causing trouble? Just turn him into ice!

Maybe it was the way the Cryokinesis was handled, but either way, the well just got poisoned for me.

You say it's just like any other kind of powers, but in the context of the series itself, it just isn't.

              1. Well, I'll be handling it differently, and it won't be so OP. Same with his other powers that he's going to develop. On that note, I need to post the next chapter!

                1. So you do unsterand my point?

                  Comment Actions
                  1. I do, and I agree that he was both overpowered and inconsistent, which I am trying to avoid in this fic.

                    1. I don't actually mind the idea of Danny becoming powerful, it's the randomness and inconsistency that bothered me.

                      1. Well, hopefully it'll be less random in my fic. XD I just posted a new chapter, by the way!
