Actually, seagoing vessels do exist (Jareth and Sarah increased their trading ships and the warships that defend them, back in 'Frozen Tide'). This monster, while horrific, wasn't all that much bigger than the little rowboat they were in. I'm sure to them, it was huge and horrifying. Also, they are only familiar with the area around Eire and Pritani (Ireland/England/Scotland). But as Sarah noticed, they (and the Fae) haven't really explored much beyond the equivalent of Europe and the perimeter of the sea that corresponds to the Mediterranean. They know that there is a continent to the South (Africa) as well as the huge landmass to the East (Asia) but as yet, they have no idea about North/South America, Australia or anything in the equivalent of the South Pacific or Antartica. They suspect the existence of these places, as they (and the Fae) are aware that the Underground is a twin to Earth, but they haven't gone looking.
Their biggest issue is keeping their magic (especially transporting) under wraps. The Fae can track both it and conjuring magic, if they see it. And since (to the best of their knowledge and aside from themselves) only Goblins can do those things, it would alert them that there are Goblins on the continent, and they'd come looking for them. The levin bolt that Devan used is something common to most magical races, but it would still leave a trace that SOMEONE used magic.
