    I hardly ever leave comments but I couldn't resist. you've got a fantastic grasp of characterisation, I just don't know where to start!! Basil is a tricky character to get right, because his traits and his everything lend easily to woobification, but this is just... Basil. he's a sweet boy who is weird as fuck and maladjusted - and he did that shit! he very much walked in on his friend's corpse and decided to frame her manslaughter as a suicide! so where do we go from here? life just has to go on, and you've portrayed the going-on with the complexity and the simplicity that it needs to be.

    moreover, I think this has got to be one of the best portrayals of Aubrey in fic I've ever read. her anger and her compassion are both so present; fandom leans towards treating those two as warring factions when really they're twin sisters. she's so loving, so protective, and you can just tell how mad it makes her that she still loves Basil and wants to protect him, but she gives in and it's fine. I want to liken it to cuteness aggression but it's not quite that. again, with the woobification, fandom loooves to erase Basil's autonomy but Aubrey might be the only person in the game who fully refuses to do that. when we see Aubrey and Basil in canon, their relationship is so nasty and unbalanced, because at the heart of their relationship was two people who made a perfect balance, who understood each other in ways their other friends couldn't and that's so, so important to kids, and to have that taken away was a betrayal of everything. oh Aubrey. loveee the Kimbrey here. it's so teenage girl: Aubrey is embarrassed by Kim's presence and embarrassed by her response to Kim's presence but she can't imagine life without Kim but can't ever imagine Kim fitting anywhere in her life, too, and Kim's the coolest person she knows and Kim knows her better than the people she grew up with but actually what does Kim know about her besides everything and nothing? Kim is her best friend; of course she likes her. god. you've left me with so much to think about. great stuff

      thank you so much!! i'm sooo happy you liked basil here, god i love him so much, and i think one of the main reasons i find him compelling is like. *because* he did all that. i've noticed a really strong tendency in the fandom to either woobify or demonize him, which is crazy because that is literally the exact thing the game is asking you to engage with about his character. he's kind and nice and very nervous, and he also Did That. "a sweet boy who is weird as fuck" yeah.

      annndddd i'm even more happy you liked aubrey she is my all-time favorite. imo her compassion and her anger are just kind of the exact same thing. it all comes from the same place. it doesn't make complete sense but neither does basil's whole deal and i think that's part of why i love their relationship. characters who contain multitudes and whatnot. and i also agree abt her refusing to ignore his autonomy, it's so good! she's known him long enough that she Knows he's not stupid, he meant to do what he did, and then yeah. the betrayal of it all. i get her.

      everybody needs to get more abnormal about kimbrey i love kimbrey. i will do everything in my power to make them even weirder and more complicated. 🫡🫡 it's what they deserve
