Comment on A day in the life of - oh, who fucking cares!?

  1. No worries! It's such an exciting story, so im looking forward to reading all of it.

03 went surprisingly hard on some of Casey's backstory, compared to most of the other cartoons. The train robbing grandfather ep is so funny. He gets so offended like my grandfather would never rob this train, making you think he doesn't believe that his grandfather would be a thief. But nope, he fully believes that, he just doesn't think he robbed this particular train 🤣

The ep with the catchphrase is a weird one. The turtles sneak out and decide train Casey (they don't know whi it is obvs) after either seeing him get bullied or seeing him try and stick up for a friend getting bullied (I can't remember which way round that went). The twist is that the kid goes by Arnold, so you find out only at the end (even thought it's fairly obvious) that its Casey.

I never understood why 12 Casey basically got no backstory at all.

I love all versions of TMNT. Bit I have to admit, 03 is definitely one of the best all rounders out of the cartoons.

I'm glad that you found my comment fun!! I was a little worried that it might have been annoying that I just spewed lore at you 😅😅

    1. Oh no, I enjoyed the lore! The 2003 series is a lot, like it’s pretty jammed pack and there are a lot of episodes, so I definitely would have had to comb through all of them to figure this out. You probably just saved me a ton of time 😅

Do you know what episode the one with his grandfather is?

And yeah, all we really know about 12 Casey is that he has a Dad and a sister. A lot of people like to headcanon that the one blonde girl that Leo had tea with once is his sister. I just think that would be too coincidental, but you can see just how much people were reaching for any kind of family/backstory content for Casey 💀

The catchphrase episode sounds weirdly familiar, like I’m getting déjà vu as you’re describing it more. I must have seen a screenshot from it or watched it in passing or something. That doesn’t sound as bad as what I thought, even kinda sweet, and the turtles would definitely help a kid getting bullied. Guessing they found out it was Casey after they’d already gotten home? Or maybe even not at all?

      1. I'm glad that you enjoyed the lore dump! The 03 series is chock full of history 😊

I believe the ep whitn Casey's grandfather is Cousin Sid, which is the first episode of season 4.

And yeah, any ideas around Casey's backstory in 12 unfortunately seem like a release backseat there really is so little to go on! I personally couldn't believe the theory that the tea girl could be Casey's sister, because I feel like if she was they'd have made her look more like him so that people would pick up on it. I do like theories that his sister would be like Angel from 03 as he does have a brotherly dynamic with her when she's introduced.

And yeah, the upside was kinda cute, with each turtle trying to be the best at mentoring Casey. The only thing that ruins the sweetness is that it is never brought up, ever. I don't believe there is ever any mention of it. Not an off hand moment where it registers, not a moment where the catchphrase sparks a memory, not an episode where Casey mentions the weirdos who trained him once upon upon a time and the boys unwillingly have to explain the time they snuck out. No lovely moment where they all get to scream that was you! It's so frustrating

        1. Okay, so I gotta ask…why Cousin Sid? Like, who is Cousin Sid?

I like the theories about his sister being like Angel too! That’s why I just HAD to include a little bit of that, lol. I think it’s a fun, silly reference, and I enjoyed their dynamic immensely in 03. I thought it was so sweet, but pretty awful too taking into account all of that stuff with the Purple Dragons 😬 If I’m remembering correctly, that’s how they had met

Shame the show never references the origin of his catchphrase again! Though I suppose that could get confusing really fast, especially if they referenced it in a much later episode. They really missed an opportunity at the end of the episode to have Mikey go: “Hey guys, did that kid seem familiar to you?”

          1. Cousin Sid is Casey's cousin, who wants to track down the money from their grandfather's train robberies to pay of his debts 🤣
