Comment on Star Wars: Ahsoka of the Zerg - Volume 1: Rebirth

  1. Kerrigan (the Queen of Blades) and Ashoka are two of my favorite sci-fi characters. It would be awesome to see them get along and kick ass together. I am just not a fan of swarm on swarm violence or force corruption bullshittery. That Aemon mind controlling the Star craft universe stunt was bad enough and corrupting the Zerg and Protoss was bad enough.

    1. I plan to do some more backstory on the Zerg later in the series, but I might as well reveal it already now: Sarah remains Primal Queen of Blades. One of the premises of the story is that she did not ascend, and remained the ruler of the Zerg Swarm.
But she has evolved some interesting abilities, and acquired new skills over the last hundreds of years.

I grew up in the 90s with StarCraft 1, and remember the story very well. I liked infested Kerrigan from the start, and was shocked when she did not join the good guys. Looking back, I can easily concede to that the writers took a very bold direction. The other RTS-games of that era (Warcraft 2, Command & Conquer series) were basically good guys vs bad guys, and only one side wins (canonically, the good guys). Starcraft 1 was very different story wise, and many applauded it. I'm aware that many were dismayed with the direction of Starcraft 2's story, with the whole prophecy thing, Amon's corruption, etc. I personally didn't mind that much, perhaps I'm too much of a simpleton ;)

When it comes to possible corruption, I see psionic powers and the Force as working with fundamental differences. There are no such thing as light side or dark side in psionic or void powers. The Force however, has these (or, if you agree with Kyle Katarn's view: it is the way you use them). I've seen instances in SW media where the Dark Side, completely out of control, can have an area-corrupting effect on individuals and livings beings, even environments. Such as the Sith Temple on Dromund Kaas or the Dark Heart on Voss (SW: The Old Republic). Or Felicua, after Shaak Ti was killed by Galen Marek (SW: Force Unleashed). Yeah, I know those sources are legend and not Disney canon, but I will be borrowing from both.
And thus, through Ahsoka, it can spread through the Swarm.

I don't plan to have corruption spread through the Zerg, or have broods fight broods. Kerrigan will make sure to prevent it, should Ahsoka fall to the Dark Side. The downside is that she will have to resort to drastic measures, which she really don't relish.
But this is an issue that will overshadow Ahsoka for a long time, and a challenge that she will have to master.
