    Obligatory poor little meow meow hurt heart

    So far the story reminds me of the (true) story of a similar heart problem diagnosed by pure chance in a French illustrator when she was 18 months and in the hospital for an unrelated problem (all the story is on her Instagram). It was patent ductus arteriosus and she had to spend two weeks at the hospital - impossible to understand for a child so young, it was a nightmare for her. Her mother stayed with her but slept on the ground (no beds for parents). To add to the coincidence, your story takes place in 1988 and that's about the same time this happened for this person!

    She's an healthy adult now, had to see the cardiologist every year until she was considered "healed" at 15.

    (she also wrote an amazing comic about how to survive a toxic relationship, it's called So Much For L💀ve and I think everybody should read it)

      Poor little hurt heart (and the meow meow)
      It's not patent ductus arteriosus (though that is one of the conditions that I considered) but there will probably be a lot of similarities between their stories. (though I probably won't make his mama sleep on the floor)
      Jay is also gonna end up as a healthy adult (though I am considering this a semi AU cause I'm finding conflicting information on whether or not he would have been accepted by the Army after this - though generally it comes down to 'it depends')
      (the comic seems amazing - i only read the sample so far but I love her voice!)
