Chapter 1: Part I
Chapter Text
“It’s not gonna work is it? I went my whole life excited to meet who the universe decided was my perfect match just to find out it’s not gonna work.”
“I’d like to make it work. We could try. As long as you promise not to kill me.”
“I promise but I can’t promise anything for my family.”
“And I for mine. The secrecy with just add to the sexiness of this.”
“Then yeah, I’d like to try.”
“Good, because one taste and, darling, I’m already addicted to those lips.”

It's short. I am aware. The chapters will get longer, but starting out, they will mainly just be starting the story. Sorry if I crushed any hopes!

Chris' POV
Family traditions can be weird. Some of them are normal, sure, but not mine. You know your family tradition is weird when you have to suddenly up and move schools your senior year of high school for your family's hunt.
Now, most people would think Well, why do you have to move schools to hunt? The answer is simple. Well, in my case it is. We had to move to hunt a werewolf in Beacon Hills. Don't worry, dear reader, you read right. Werewolf.
"Why won't you just take the taser, Christopher?" my father asks me for the umpteenth time as he goes through my bag.
I groan and tell him, yet again, "It's a high school, dad. They won't let me get past the front doors with a taser." I roll my eyes as I take my bag from him and zip it so I can finish getting ready.
My father looks at me in accusation as he says, "Yes, Christopher, it is a high school. They will not be checking your bag to see if you brought a taser to school."
I shove a piece of toast in my mouth and say, "And when I accidentally spill my bag I'm sure we can come to a complete understanding as to why I am in possession of a taser. Oh, don't worry, ma'am, sir. It's not intended for the students. I'm simply hunting a werewolf. Yes. I see that going over well."
"Give him a break, Christopher. He was home schooled." My mother comes out smirking at me and I chuckle.
My father huffs and goes over everything one more time. "Now, listen to me, Christopher. While you are here to hunt, you are also required to get an education. I see no point in home schooling you if you have to be at a high school all day anyway. Also, If you don't graduate, we'll have some serious problems."
I roll my eyes and finish getting my shoes on before standing up fully. "I am aware, dad. I'll do fine. Don't worry." I open the door and shout a quick goodbye before making my way down the street to the school.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let me tell you, being the new kid wasn't nearly as awful as they made it out to be on television. I mean, sure, you may have gotten a few funny looks because people weren't used to seeing you, but people didn't automatically start pushing you around. I suppose, I may have been at a bit of an advantage. I was a little above average looking, and with the life I led, I definitely had some muscle on me.
Those looks are what got me into the position I was currently in. Cornered by the school hotshot.
"So, you got any preferences, kid?" The decent looking guy asked.
I roll my eyes and said, "I don't see how it's any of your business, but do tell me? Do you just take your pick and automatically assume that they're going to fall desperately at your feet? Oh, whatever the fuck your name is, how lucky of me to have been noticed by someone of such greatness as yourself!" I say, pitching my voice up a bit higher than necessary. "Is that typically how this goes?"
The dude in front of grows a look of amusement before holding out his hand and saying, "Peter Hale, and I must say, you fighting back just draws me more to you."
My eyes went wide. Peter Hale. It was him. The entire reason I had to be in this school and managed to find myself in this situation. I avoid his hand and say, "That's great, but I really couldn't care less. Next thing you're going to tell me is that you're the quarterback and I should feel honored to have your interest."
This causes Peter to laugh and corner me further, saying, "Oh, darling, haven't you heard. We don't do football. We here go for the much more complex lacrosse." He leans in closer his hand hovering over my waist, "However, I do just so happen to be teen captain." With that, his hand landed on my waist and just so happened to hit bare skin, and oh my gods did that hurt. It burned like my entire body had gone up in flames. Of course, I knew what this meant. However, instead of being a rational human being and just admitting it to the other person, I used my torture endurance training to hide any hint of what had happened. I withdrew my hands to make sure I didn't accidentally leave a mark on him and said, "That's great, but I honestly have no interest." And with that, I slid away from him and took off running. Nobody was to ever find out about this. If they did, it was sure to make it back to my dad. If that happened...
We were both dead.
Notes:
Here we go!
"So It Goes" has had it's official kick off!
Are you excited?
Chapter 3: I Know Places
Summary:
Just a quick look into Peter's mind.
Notes:
I know this is really late, and I know it is super short. I am so sorry! I went through a lot of crap, college got the best of me, and then I moved to California after living in the Midwest for my whole life. I am going to try keeping up with this a bit better. Let me know what you think or maybe where you'd like to see this story go!
Chapter Text
Peter’s POV
Hunter. The smell of gunpowder and an underlying scent of wolfsbane was unmistakable. Either this kid was a hunter or he was messing in some weird stuff in his spare time.
Now, I definitely saw a look of recognition on the guy’s face when I told him my name. However, within an instant he was pulling away. He was walking away as if nothing had happened. No threats were given, no ‘I know what you are’. Just… Nothing.
I thought maybe it was just because it was too early. He had just gotten there, after all, the day I confronted him, but it kept going like this. Everyday from then on out he never said anything. He didn’t even approach me.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. ‘ Peter, isn’t a good thing that the hunter is leaving you alone? ’ Which to that I would have to say no. It would be good for me, but it honestly made me more nervous. Every hunter’s job was to get close to the suspect, find out more about their life, find out the exact details that could bring them down, and then strike. The hunter knew nothing about me, and it seemed like he was going to keep it that way.
Maybe the hunter didn’t know what I was. It was a very rare occasion, but occasionally a hunter would come to town without any knowledge of the wolf’s name. All they knew was that there was a wolf terrorizing the town. However, in order for that to be the case, the wolf had to be terrorizing the town. Now, I know for a fact that none of my family was doing so, and we were the only pack in this territory. That meant that they had to have found us through name. The Hale Pack was well known, so it would only make sense that they found us through name. This would mean that this hunter would have known exactly who I was the second I gave him my name.
Now, that brings us to the question of why I would give him my name if I knew he was a hunter. Well, quite simple really, this boy was damn nice to look at. He was tall, blonde, and muscular. He was exactly my type. The danger honestly just added to the excitement for me.
However, approaching the boy was not an option. Anytime I would even get near him he would freak out and walk the other direction. I would wait outside his classroom door and he would walk away like he didn’t have to be in that class and that exact moment.
This was going to be a long year.
Chapter 4: Truth Will Out
Chapter Text
Three weeks. It took three weeks for me to come to any form of conclusion, and it wasn’t a conclusion his father would have liked. This conclusion? Peter Hale wasn’t bad.
He had been observing Peter from a distance, refusing to actually get to know him. He knew it would make his job easier, but he couldn’t bring himself to get near the guy. His observations, however, led to more knowledge than he thought possible.
Sure, the guy could be a douche when he wanted to, but he was actually a pretty decent guy. He didn’t go around looking for fights, he helped the kid next to him in his history class, he always found something to help the janitor with, and he was actually a really decent lacrosse player. (Yes, Chris had gone to his games. It was simply for research.)
So, when it started coming up to a time where he knew he couldn’t avoid his father’s questions any longer, he feared having to out the boy. Peter was genuinely an innocent 16 year old. Well, as innocent as a 16 year old could be. He just so happened to be born into the “wrong” bloodline.
That evening at dinner, the inevitable happened.
“So,” Gerard’s pounding voice broke the silence that had previously been filled with only metal utensils on ceramic plates. “Have you met the Hale boy yet?”
Chris paused for a moment before continuing to eat his food.
“Christopher, I asked you a question.” His father said, putting his own utensils down. “Have you met him?”
Chirs sighed and swallowed what he was chewing. “Yes, I have.” Was all he responded with before getting back to eating.
His father continued to stare Chris down, not satisfied with the answer. “And? What is there to know? Have you learned anything?”
Chris, having enough of the conversation, started gathering his things up. “He plays lacrosse.” With those words, he gets up, takes his items to the sink, and heads to his room.
“Young man, you were not excused!” Was the last thing he heard before he shut his door.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chris didn’t sleep that night. He couldn’t even fathom the idea of closing his eyes. He didn’t understand why his family was the way they were. He had asked his father about it once. He had simply told him it was what an Argent did. It was the right way to do things.
Chris had always believed it after that. He had no reason to think otherwise. He was never seriously involved in the process of hunting on the process of killing. As far as he had ever seen, werewolves only did harm.
Now, he’s realizing that the reason he saw it that way was because he had only seen them on defence. He’d never seen a single werewolf that wasn’t being attacked. Until now.
Peter had never harmed anyone. As Chris said, Peter was actually really kind. So, why was he being hunted? Chris, in his whole 3 weeks of knowing the guy, could find no reason for the guy to be hunted. He had done absolutely nothing wrong. Honestly, if he didn’t know the name ahead of time, he never would have guessed that Peter was even a werewolf.
Chris was fighting with himself. All of his instincts were telling him to complete the bond that came with having a soulmate. However, he knew how much danger that could put Peter in, and, just from what he’d learned about the guy, Peter didn’t deserve that.
That just proved Chris’ point! He didn’t even know the guy that well and he wanted to keep him safe. Peter seemed to have that effect on people. He made people want to get to know him.
By three am, Chris had made up his mind. He was going to attempt to befriend Peter so he could get to know more about him. If he wanted to convince himself that it was only for his job, that was something he’s just have to deal with himself.
Chapter Text
I had long since given up on trying to get the hunter’s attention. I realized it was all in vain. I figured I was better off putting my time and effort into things that wanted my time and effort.
So, imagine my surprise when I hear a very familiar voice speaking over me at lunch.
“Hello. My name is Christopher Argent, but you can call me Chris.”
I looked up to see the guy standing with his arms crossed. I smiled at him and stuck out my hand. “As I said, Peter Hale. Nice to meet you, Chris.”
He decided to ignore my hand in favour of sitting across from me. “Yes. I am aware.”
He pulls out his lunch after this and starts eating, making no effort at conversation.
“So…” I start, trying to get him to talk. “What made you change your mind?”
Chris looks up at me with a bored expression on his face. “You’re not as much of a dick as I thought you were.” He simply stated.
Now, let me tell you. Almost everything in my instincts at this point was telling me to run. All of this seemed sketchy. Why was he suddenly defending me? Why had he taken so long to do what his job description told him to? Was he trying to throw me off guard? Did he think I didn’t know what he was?
However, that small part of me that drew me into him was winning over. While it was only a small fragment of my being telling me to stay, it overpowered every piece telling me to run.
Who was this man and how did he manage to make me feel safe and yet so very uneasy?
Notes:
Sorry it’s short. I’m working on getting back into the flow of this book.
