Summary
Sebastian scans the stone-walled room before entering all the way. Candlelight dusts midnight into a drowsy glow. Shadows dance in the corner, sleepy, slow, and empty – but Seb does not believe that emptiness. He’s never sure where the Boss’s Vaelin may be lurking, watching, waiting to test him or his Ajra.

Summary
Her name is Ashley or Ali or something like that, and it doesn’t matter because she isn’t him, and it matters because at least her name doesn’t resemble his in any way shape or form.
Sherlock thinks of her as ‘Skull,’ and calls her by that moniker, and if she finds it disagreeable, she keeps her mouth shut about it. (John would never have stood for that.)

Summary
John stops dead in his tracks. Nothing could have prepared him for the scene before him:
Sherlock is frozen – surprised, no doubt, caught unawares by John’s abrupt return. He is frozen with his arms extended (graceful like the rest of him) to cradle an invisible other, left arm raised, right arm curved lower.
Slowly, the rigor in his muscles lifts, and his arms lower to rest at his sides. “John.” He’s facing away from the doctor’s poleaxed stare, and that allows John a moment to collect himself, to inhale against the tightness in his chest. “I – ”“You dance.”

Summary
In retrospect, Sherlock should not have been surprised at how quickly John grew to mean more than the other half of the rent, how quickly accidental brushes became hoarded moments, a collection of touches and the honey tones of hot and sweet they left behind, how quickly the clasped hands of comrades became the lingering glow of sparking palms.

Summary
It’s not that he didn’t notice John’s aesthetic qualities before the glasses – it’s simply that the sudden, unexpected addition of them has called attention, no – forced attention, commanded it, really – and Sherlock finds himself caught on the hook of John’s gaze again and again and again.
In the mornings over newspapers, in the afternoons over medical journals, in the evening over corpses…

Summary
“I had two hearts once.” John raises a hand to rub at his scarred shoulder. “Now there’s just the one. It gets lonely, knocking about my ribcage all on its own.” He smiles a bit. It’s not a happy sort of smile, because John hears it at night, sometimes, beating too fast or too slow, losing rhythm without a partner to help keep count. The sound of its distress is loud in the emptiness of a room that is exactly the size you’d expect it to be when you enter it.
