Summary
It’s been a few months since Keith’s dad remarried, leaving Keith at a new school with no friends, no mom, and no hope. The only thing that keeps him from going completely insane is Lance Fuentes, the charming, funny, and surprisingly intimidating boy that Keith’s been admiring (read: pining after) from afar since day one.
After a bad day leaves Lance miserable and embarrassed, Keith takes a chance and uses the Garrison’s school messenger system to comfort him as an anonymous admirer named Unknown. What was supposed to be a one-sided message of hope turns into the strangest friendship in the school, and soon Keith finds himself closer to Lance then he’d ever dreamed he would be. But keeping a secret this big is hard--especially when a few chance encounters lead him to become friends with Lance in real life as well.
Unable to explain to Lance that he’s Unknown, and equally unable to fade away as he’d first intended, Keith soon finds himself trapped in a web of secrets and lies. As he becomes desperate to keep his identity from being discovered, Lance becomes just as desperate to find out who Unknown really is. The question is, just how far are they willing to go?Series

Summary
“He doesn’t like to talk about it too much,” Lance explains, squeezing Keith’s hand as they wait at a crosswalk. “He thinks he’s burdening us with his problems or something.”
They’re headed to Lance’s house after an emergency snack run for the sleepover. Keith’s hand is in his, and their other hands are filled with shopping bags full of chips and junk food.
“Hunk doesn’t seem like the secretive type,” Keith says, frowning. Lance nods in agreement.
“He’s terrible at keeping secrets. But it’s not really a secret secret since he doesn’t try to hide it or anything. He just doesn’t bring it up much.”
“Have they ever like, hit him?” Keith asks.
“Definitely not,” Lance says, frowning at the thought. “They love him a lot, and they’d never do anything to hurt him physically. Sometimes it feels like he’s the only reason they’re still together.”
“That’s… kind of sad,” Keith says, squeezing Lance’s hand. “Isn’t there anything we can do for him?”
“I don’t think there is,” Lance says. “The best thing we can do for him is to be there when he needs us."

Summary
The school play is going smoothly.
Most of the actors have their lines memorized, the sets are coming along well, props and costumes are mostly finished, the tech crew and the student directors are working together to get the blocking down, tickets are being sold faster than the PR committee can print them, and best of all, Keith has officially joined the Drama club.
They have yet to hit an obstacle they can’t overcome, and as the days go by, Lance is starting to believe that it will continue that way. With only a month left before opening night and the entire team being ahead of schedule, he doesn’t see a single way things could go wrong.
And then it happens.

Summary
Lance is normally the best at giving people presents. It’s a gift--no pun intended.
As a kid, he’d always been meticulous about presents for Christmas and birthdays and baby showers. He’d even made his parents take him back to the store to return something if it didn’t feel right. And following his instinct has paid off so far--Hunk and Pidge have kept every present he’s ever given them, which is a big deal for people who once burned their baby teeth in a campsite fire pit for a demonic ritual. (Lance, being highly superstitious, had refused to participate.) The point is, he’s a natural gift giver.
So why can’t he think of a present for Keith?

Summary
Lance returns a minute later, out of breath. “Your dad’s coming,” he pants, leaning against the wall and setting a hand over Keith’s. “He says he’s taking you to the ER.”
Keith grits his teeth, balling his free hand into a fist. He can’t go to the hospital--he just can’t. Doesn’t his dad understand that, after everything that happened with his mom? After all the work he’d gone to to repress those memories? Why isn’t he explaining it to them? Keith can’t go, doesn’t he know that?
