“I'm home,” he said perfunctorily, shutting the door behind him a little too forcefully. Immediately, his nostrils were hit with an intoxicatingly sweet smell. He kicked off his shoes, haphazardly tossed his bag onto the floor, and followed his nose into his own kitchen.
The sight he saw took his breath away.
Togawa, in a hoodie and sweatpants, stood in front of his stove, whisking something on the burner. His face was drawn in intense concentration, treating whatever he was making like he treated important stacks of paperwork at the office. Across his cheek there was a smudge of something, which upon closer inspection had to have been chocolate, and his foot was tapping an offbeat rhythm, carrying on to a tune inside his head.

That was not a shocking statement, he thinks. There aren’t many under thirty bachelors who liked doing laundry and other chores. He had so much he did outside of the house that maintaining it seemed like such an after thought; he was only really going to sleep there, what did the rest of it matter?
But he wasn’t an under thirty bachelor anymore. He was a thirty year old man with a wonderful older boyfriend who really enjoyed a well kept space.

Nozue chuckled, caressing his cheek with an achingly tender touch, “So silly, forgetting your own birthday.”
Togawa had died, and was being rewarded for his good deeds in life. That had to be it.
“Can you wait in this spot until I get back?” [...] "Right here, like this.”
His muscles tensed, and he forced them to relax, “Yes.”
“Are you sure?” Nozue said with a playful lilt, brushing his fingers along Togawa’s ribs, feather light and leaving him wanting more. Togawa nodded, jaw set with determination. Nozue stood, holding the back of Togawa’s head. He put no weight into it, relying on Togawa to keep himself in place, “Tell me why you’re so sure.”
Togawa gulped air, lungs full of anticipation, “Because I’m a good dog.”
It is Togawa's birthday, Nozue treats him to special service all day, and Togawa is a good boy.
